32 miles from civilisation. Fuel computer says 32 miles....
Discussion
I'm in my girlfriends 120D Sport because my van is getting serviced today, am I'm visiting a site in the middle of nowhere somewhere near the Northumbrian/Cumbria border... I set off with nearly quarter of a tank but this thing seems to guzzle fuel! I've actually been driving carefully as well, 50-60mph, twisty A/B roads.
So I need to get back home, nearest petrol station is probably 32 miles away and it's saying 32 left in the tank...
Place your bets!

No worries, you will get there!
Drove a 2.3/2.5 Mazda 6 Automatic with 0 miles left on the digital display in the middle of nowhere in Australia, 40 miles later....rolled into the petrol station on fumes.
PS: Girlfriend at the time was throwing a fit, knew it would get there.
Did exactly the same thing in Oz, I've never been so pleased to see lights in my life.Drove a 2.3/2.5 Mazda 6 Automatic with 0 miles left on the digital display in the middle of nowhere in Australia, 40 miles later....rolled into the petrol station on fumes.

What? I could never get mine much under 45mpg even booting the s
t out of it and NEVER under 40.
Take it out of 2nd imo.
Yeah it's really surprised me... It's saying 39.8mpg on the average mpg display and that's what my girlfriend gets out of it all the time doing a mix of little bit of town but mostly 50-70mph on the main road to her work and back.

Seems thirsty?? It's an 07 plate with 65k on the clock.
On at least 3 occasions I've pulled up next to the pumps with the trip computer already reading zero miles to empty.
Each time, despite brimming the tank, I've only managed to get in 6-8 litres less than the stated capacity of the tank. I would imagine most cars have a similar reserve / safety margin.

Does she use the air con and heated seats and so on? Does seem a bit low for a 120d, the trip computer on mine says it's averaging 48.7mpg.
I have driven the car with 0 miles showing on the trip computer for about 10 miles - didn't check my fuel level before I set off on the motorway and ended up nearly conking out completely on the sphincter-tightening drive to the next services.

Aircon is always default On/Auto on the climate control thing.I have driven the car with 0 miles showing on the trip computer for about 10 miles - didn't check my fuel level before I set off on the motorway and ended up nearly conking out completely on the sphincter-tightening drive to the next services.
Doesn't use heated seats.
I've had a couple of occasions in my car driving career where I have been at 0 or even worse on some displays you get ---. Always worried that it's going to conk out at any second but I've always made it with miles to spare.
Alternatively in my youth I used to have a Golf for a while with a dodgy fuel gauge which was forever leaving me stranded. On night right smack bang in front of Stonebridge Estate in West London which for those who don't know it has a reputation for being one of the roughest council estates in London. Sitting in the car in front of said estate at 1am, waiting for the nice AA man to come along while nervously watching a string of crackheads come and go from the estate was one of the more exciting experiences of my youth.
