I've been looking to get a DVD Recorder which will only be used to watch DVDs and to record films in Dolby 5.1 from Sky+. I will not need to record directly from the TV because I have Sky+ for that.

Can this be done?

I bought the June Edition of 'What Widescreen TV' on the weekend which had book suppliment detailing all the DVD recorders available. The FAQs stated that recording 5.1 from Sky+ to a DVD recorder is not yet possible. This is contrary to what I've been told in the High Street!

Cheers....... Andrew

IIRC Sky put a code into their movies to stop them being recorded. A sort of macrovision thing. I may actually be talking utter b*llox here tho.

Thanks Watkid.
Isn't that just for the Box Office channels rather then the normal Sky Movies channels?
I can record the normal Sky Movies channels to VHS ok but really want to be able to record to DVD without losing the Dolby 5.1 soundtrack.

The new DVD recorder from Philips will record DD or DTS 5.1, no current model will record 5.1.

I think it's just the box office movies which are copy protected, but these don't seem to be broadcast in 5.1. The only movie channels in 5.1 are Sky movies 1, 2 & 3
