Which Photoshop version to support RAW files?

Just lost everything on my PC & need to buy Photoshop again.

What version would I need to support RAW files (had Photoshop 6) & the cheapest option?

That depends on which version of ACR it has, and what camera raw files you want to process.

You should be able to reload your old one if it's licensed. Speak to Adobe

Alternatively sign up for an evening class, get a student card and buy the education version assuming you don't need it for commercial work

The version you need will depend on which camera you have. Raw files are supported in most of the versions but the manufacturers tend to bring out new raw formats with each new model of camera.

Another solution if an older version of photoshop doesn't support more recent RAW format files is to download the free DNGConverter software from Adobe. My standard workflow now is to run all my RAW files through this to convert them to DNG format which basically is a "standard RAW format". It also protects against older RAW formats becoming unsupported in the future.

Photoshop then deals with the DNG files in the same way it would with native RAW format files. I believe that some of the extended (very little used) EXIF information may be lost, but the image quality and ability to tweak exposure, colour balance etc.. is unaffected.
