Forgive the question, but do Christian bands "spread the message"? I mean, is that part of their purpose and how they become defined as "Christian"? Am probably not making much sense..

Many do exactly that, others jump on and off the bandwagon as it suits them... Take U2 for example, I first saw them in 1981 at Greenbelt festival, but they never returned to play as a band once they became a big name.

You are making sense. They are meant to do just that. To spread the message of 'Christ'. Most Christian band do but some pick and choose as they please.
