Window motor packed up - help please!

This is my first message, sorry for not filling in my profiley bit as I'm just getting to grips with it all.


'98 Griff 500 is the car... a packed up driver's side window motor is the problem.

The interior panelling is off, and the back of my elbow is scratched, but we have made good progress... the thing is now, how do I get the motor out???

Secondly, what IS the motor? Citroen seems to be the hot tip, but if anyione knows for sure, that would be priceless (does anyone ever know anything for sure with TVRs??! )

Sorry for introducing myself with a problem, but it's 6 weeks until I can get the car in to a garage so I would hate to miss the weather we are going to have as a result! I'm just going to have to get up to my elbows in it all.

Welcome to Pistonheads. I'm sorry my welcome doesn't come with any useful advise, but there are plenty of people who know just about everything there is to know collectively.

I've heard it's a Citroen unit as well, but that's about all I know.

The motor is TVR. Not citroen/peugeot/or any other. The motor is made by Bosch and can look like many many others which is where all the alternative sources have come from. Either get one from the factory or a scrappy.

You need to chcek if it is the motor or the mechanism. Either case remove the motor and see if it moves. TRy and see if the mechnaism will move. Failing that it is unbolt the mechanism and window and lift out to replace the faulty bits.

The motor sits in a small bearing in the mechanism and can be a swine to get back in. Sometimes it is no problem... others it can take 30 minutes.

Luckily it's drizabone round here, but the masking tape sealing the window gap looks tres pikey.

Er.... are you sure the motor's dead?

Passenger side one stopped working - it was the connector behind the speaker, a quick clean etc and it now works....
