Pipex USB modem not working with XP - HEEEEEELPP!
Discussion
Please can I have the help from PH's tome of knowledge when it comes to USB.
I have a Pipex USB Broadband modem adn it works fine with Win98se.
However when I use my harddrive with XP on it, XP cant find the modem. The power light just flashes red and I ahve checked the settings to make sure the port has power.
Im using a Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra Motherboard which has USB 2.0 and I think that this might be causing the problems
Please help

I've had problems with WinXP and USB2 ports with USB1.1 devices too.
Set up 2 very similar machines (identical motherboards), one running Win2k and one running XP Pro.
The WinXP machine wouldn't pick up USB1.1 devices in a USB2 port unless they were there when the machine was booted up or I set the ports to USB1.1 in the BIOS. Second option was out of the question as I had a USB2 only printer to connect to the machine and the first kind of defeats the point of USB... Eventually found it I plugged a USB1.1 hub into a port, booted with that in and then plugged the USB1.1 devices into the hub everything worked ok.
The Win2k machine worked just fine.

Are the jumpers set on the motherboard to activate USB? They would ahve to be wouldnt they? 98se is using them.
Are you using the onboard USB rather than the expansion ones using that PCI blank and cable malarky?
Im using the onboard USB and yes they are activated.
If its the former, activate them, if its the latter use the native ones...
