I'm stuck 70 miles from home with my cerb.

The car seems do drive and idle fine until its been sitting in traffic for a while, then it won't idle and keeps shutting down.

Anyone know why this might be?

If it otherwise runs fine then it's probably just throttle pot settings or something similar. Half a turn on the throttle stop might help for now?

I had something mildly similar recently, fuel vapourisation was one of the possibilities. It might help to pull over for a while and let the engine cool. What is the temperature gauge showing? Are the fans cutting in as they should?

Most likely hot fuel, feel the tank.

Go and fill it up with some cold stuff.

It might be a vapour lock, as its got hot. LEt it cool down, if you can stick some fresh fuel in it.

I am in Chelmsford if you're ever over this way. I understand you just got it?

Sorry I didn't get back to you - but hopefully you're at home by now!

The throttle pots are jut potentiometers which read the opening on each throttle bank and can go out of sync sometimes and need resetting - a job to do with a laptop and the software which I'm sure someone will let you have. If they go out of adjustment they can muck up th low speed running and tickover quite easily.

Anyway, hopefully it's sorted now - I'm sure the pleasure will soon overcome the inconvenience!

Hi All,

Thank you so much for all your help, I got home about 8.30pm after sitting in traffic again on the M25 for ages, thanks to Tims advice on the phone the car didn't shut down although the idle was a little high, a project for tomorrow I think at home rather then a pub car park.

Basically we have adjusted the idle by adjusting the throttle cable stop. The engine was running fine although the idle was now a little high, the problem is the car still wants to shut down or the idle drops very low but only when on a slope with the front pointing up. Maybe someone can help point me in the direction of what I should be looking at tomorrow.

Don't worry I'm not, once we were back on the road even though she still isn't running right I made it home with a huge grin on my face, probably the looks I got when I pulled up outside the chip shop helped.

Thanks, theres still a problem, I'll see if I can find some kind person that would be able to check this for me at some point.

I hope you're right because even with the problem I'm already becoming attached to her.

Thanks, I almost did end up near Chelmsford on my way back to Southend to avoid traffic on the M25 just after the A12.

Welcome Tony- she's just letting you know whose boss! Which she'll do again, but most of us are experts in letting someone else think they're the boss.As everyone says on here,Cerbs get under your skin,& very quickly at that.Welcome to the rollercoaster & enjoy the ride!

I've learnt from 2 months of ownership that between me and the Cerbera, there's only one boss. And it sure ain't me.

Hi tony - welcome to the wonderful world of Cerbera ownership. Don't worry to much that she let you down on her first outing, they all seem to do that!

In order to set up the idle and throttle pots you will need the ECU software and workshop manuals available from http://www.tvr-cerbera.co.uk or http://www.thetvrsite.com/ and an airflow meter preferably this style if you don't already have one.

Idle dropping only when it is nose up is an unusual symptom! Its probably worth having a thorough poke around for any loose leads, fuel lines throttle brackets etc. The lambda sensor wiring runs close to the manifolds in places and if its damaged might be shorting in a particular position. That would probably have the effect you describe and should be visible on the diagnostic software.

Usually I'm the boss not the car, although with the Cerb I fully understand shes the boss, shes already made that clear.

If it had been any other car she would have been up for sale already, but this one is staying, even with the problems it was an enjoyable if a little stressful drive home.

2 guys who came over and were chatting to me and my dad at the pub while we were sorting the car out have a friend with a Cerb, when they called him to see if he could help he said he had seen this post on the forum, just wondering who that was?

Think I could do with getting it hooked up to a laptop, is ther anyone in Essex that would be able to do that for me for a few beers? Please.

Thanks, hopefully someone else may be able to help with the laptop as I would havew no idea what I'm doing or where to connect it but if not I'll have to see what I can do, if not it will be a TVR speciallist.
