The Griff got smacked in the car park at work yesterday!

And to cap it all she just drove off. No exchange of details or even a cursory glance to see what damage she'd inflicted on Mac.

Thing is, I have witnesses who had to run out of the way as she drove off the front end of Mac. They saw her do it, heard the smack as she reverse into the car. The driver just zoomed off thinking she'd got away with it.

I also have a tape from the 24/7 CCTV that she didn't know about!

I reported it at the local cop shop this morning - the Enquiry Officer said he felt sympathy for her as she probably just panicked! - Funnily enough I don't care if she panicked!

When he found out that Mac is a TVR he actually said "well that's what you get for having a flash car"!!!!!!!! Like Mac is a magnet and dragged her car up over his nose!

Things are going so well! Any advice?

Criminal damage, leaving the scene of an accident. attempted murder on whitness. Hunt her down and kill....(after she has paid for damage)

Tell them that she was speeding and reckless driving away from the incident..the only prosecution the police are interested in these days is speeding because they make money and have targets to meet...sad but true..

Hardly helping the Public Relations war the police are having with the general public. As has been said many times, you get an element of sh1te in every profession, it's the law of averages.

Sorry to hear about your car. I know how it feels, an uninsured scrote drove into my merc last year and legged it off up the street, leaving his passenger collapsed in the middle of the road. The police didn't do anything productive with any sense of urgency to follow it up. Not even interview the passenger who went to hospital in an ambulance or the registerred keeper who when written to a few weeks later, claimed to have sold the car for cash a few weeks before the incident.

Luck for you....

I once heard from a mate that his car was hit in the same way.
The driver got out of the car. With pen and paper wrote a message and left it under the wiper.

All the witnesses looked on with a congratulatory glance at this honest person....No-one took the number.

When the owner returned to the car the note read:-

'Sorry for the damage.....' that was it..

The version of the story I heard was "all the onlookers think I'm leaving my details, but I'm not. Ha ha".

But back on topic - sorry to hear about the damage to the Griff.

Have you considered recourse through your employers? If it was the work car park then presumably she is an employee?

Firstly I'd report the desk plod for being offensive to the victim of a crime, lay it on thick, just because you've worked/saved hard to buy a nice car doesn't mean you have to accept other people assuming you've got money to burn on repairs. If the plod was of a different race, play the racism card, thats always good for a reaction.

I work in a building occupied by various other companies. She was a visitor to one of them and not an employee.

The joke is I sometimes have to park Mac on streets in dodgey areas when I go out to meet clients and (touch wood) everything has always been fine, I just get comments from people saying what a lovely car it is and what size engine etc, etc. The car park here has 24 hour manned security and CCTV, security patrolled, barrier controlled entry/exit - so Mac should have been safer here than anywhere.

I can even see Mac out of the floor to ceiling windows directly to my left as I'm typing this note - nightmare!

Sorry Mac got whacked! Happened to my wife's car a couple of weeks ago but unlike you we didn't see who did it.

Anyway, I assume you got the registration number of the offending vehicle? If so you should write to the police expressing your concern and INSIST that they should let you have the driver's full name and address as you intend to take civil proceedings in the County Court, whether or not the police bring a criminal charge. If they will not give you her address - it may be worth getting a solicitor to write to them confirming that you intend no malice to the driver but simply wish to write to her with details of your claim.

If you do manage to get her address - write to her enclosing a quotation for the price of repairs. Give her 7 days to pay up or threaten to sue. It is better to sue in the county court rather than claim on your insurance because you will lose your no claims discount plus your next year's premium will increase. Anyway - if you have video evidence plus witnesses willing to make a statement, you should have no problem winning your case.

If your claim is worth less than £5,000 this will fall within the "Small Claims" jurisdiction and the court is very user friendly so you won't have to shell out on a solicitor. There will be a small court fee to pay and your local County Court will advise you as to the procedure and how to complete the forms.

Cheers Pies - it's certainly not the response I was expecting!

I did think about reporting him and FFG said I should, but I'm worried I'll only make trouble for myself. There aren't many Pearl White Griffs in my area and I don't want start getting pulled unnecessarily and I certainly don't want it to affect how they deal with this issue...

It's wrong that I should have to worry about this really, but I guess it's just the way things are these days!

Assuming you got the registration number, and the CCTV footage clearly shows that she hit your car. (I have seen footage from some camera's and it's sometimes not that clear).

I would report it to your insurance company, they'll be able do checks through the DVLA and the MID to get the current owner and her insurance company. Then let them pursue the matter.

Obviously, your bonus will be affected until the matter is resolved. But, they will cough up for the repairs to your vehicle and then get them back from either her or her insurance company.

I've got the reg no. from the signing in sheet at the security desk, sadly you can't see it from the CCTV footage.

The two wintesses gave a description of the driver and this matches the description of this visitor.

I just hope it's enough to nail her.

I've already notified my insurance company - Tesco. They've been really nice and very helpful. I can take it to a garage of our choice - no problem. And I get a courtesy car for 14 days from the day it goes in. Their solicitors are going to be in touch soon to see how they can help.

From the CCTV footage you can see Mac move when she hits him. Because the nose is so low it seems like she's reversed up and over the front end and the suspension may have taken the heat out of the impact.

It doesn't look too bad on the face of it, damage wise, but obviously we'll get it all checked out properly. I think we might take it to the place in Bristol (can't remember what they're called - brain's not in gear at the mo, too worried about her wriggling out of it).
