Thinking of buying '55-'56 Reg X5

Thinking of buying a '55 to '56 reg 3.0d X5, possible Le Mans Special Edition. What should I be looking out for, and what sort of mpg should I get? Currently run an e39 523i, should I get better mpg?

Also, are they good tow cars. Choice of X5 or Volvo XC90!

We have a 4.8is in le mans blue & they are a comfy motor & think the car suits a diesel engine better to try to get better economy.

You should get high 20s to early 30s mpg with the 3.0d because they weigh over two tonnes & they are quite hard on brakes & tyres.

I have drove the 3.0d & its a nice motor with its high seating position,but they arent the most engaging cars in the world & if i had my chance again i would invest in a bigger engined 5 series estate or similar.
