Well I'm all kitted out with new shorts, lid etc and my home build stumpy is at my lbs been checked over for silly mistakes and it dawned on me that I'm actually going to have to ride with spd's at long last.
Quick back history is that I got out of cycling since 2000ish and now in my 30's that invincible, throw yourself down anything feeling is long gone.
Trying to rationalise it though, I used toe-clips from 10 years old until flats became the norm.
Which leads me to..... Does anyone still use toe-clips? Or even miniclips?
Looking back they were more dangerous than spd's could ever be.. I just need to stop being a frikkin girl and go ride!

I still use toe clips - I know that upgrading to spds will make things quicker and easier, but the whole point of me cycling to work is to improve fitness, so I want to make it harder!
I suppose I can see the logic of your thinking, but in reality it doesn't work like that. SPDs will make you more efficient, but there isn't a red line on a bike, so you just go faster, or find a steeper hill. You will get just as fit riding with SPDs, and may in fact end up getting fitter simply because you find you enjoy it more, and therefore do more of it.
