speeding ticket but no MOT
Discussion
I was stopped by the police yesterday for doing 39mph in a 30mph zone.
I was told that no further action would be taken, but I need to produce my MOT, liscence and insurance at the station.
I have just checked and my MOT ran out last year.
If I have my car MOT'd before I have to produce the documents, will this be sufficient?
If not, what kind of penalty am I looking at.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.

I did the same about 8 years ago, got stopped with no MOT, (about 4 weeks not 10 months!) i went to produce my documents and told the officer behind the counter that i 'lost' my MOT and she gave me an extension to find and produce it. In that time i took my car for one and it only needed a tyre to pass, so with a new MOT i went back to the station to give my excuses and told the officer that i found my MOT but at the time of the offence it had run out but in the meantime it passed, she then took all details of the 'offence' and give me a formal verbal warning. I was then told these details would be passed onto the officer who had stopped me and it would be down to his discretion wether they prosecute. 4 weeks later i recieved a letter from the officer basicly telling me that for a first offence nothing more was going to be said on the matter and that i had got away with it
I will never again use my car without an MOT again

Not a chance they will accept an mot that doesnt cover the date of the offence and its absolute bs that you 'forgot' for 10 months. Professing to be a motoring enthusiast and not having an annual car safety check performed....
I will damn well second that, shouting very loudly with knobs on too.
No MOT for ten months...bloody disgrace...then caught by scamera too...I dont suppose you bother with tax and insurance as well do you?
Nowt wrong with what Lanciachris has said.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment on my situation. Thanks BalmoralGreen. Perhaps you and LanciaChris should start some type of club, just a suggestion.
I know that I am due a penalty, the reason I entered the topic on the forum is to see how severe the punishment is likely to be.
Regards.

Get a MOT pdq for two reasons.
You can try a sob story when you produce and show a new Cert which shows vehicle most possibly roadworthy when stopped (the object of the exercise). They may just, and I say just, accept that and give you an ear bending. (Long odds).
As you are over one month without one then they may well sheet you. By having a new Cert, as above, it provides some mitigation for you to plead to get a lighter sentence (Evens)
