We're looking after some chickens and a cat of our friends who live opposite.

The cat has been locked out (they're away for 3 days) and there's food/ water out for it that we're filling for it.

Now the problem is that the cat seems lonely. He's been wandering around our gardens all day, meeting us at the door every time we go out. He's got plenty of (untouched) food (dry and wet) and water.

We've now let him in, and he's loving all the attention. But will we now, forever, be his second home?!

Could be. When his true servants return he may well punish them by not speaking to them for a few days but then he will permit them to feed him etc.

Or he may decide you make better slaves.

If I were the cat, I'd come and live with you instead of people who lock me out when they go away!

Very possibly! Have the owners not left him any shelter?

There's shelter, yes. He could go in the cat flap into the conservatory and get the food in there. But he won't. He wants to be here!

Well he wants attention. Can't blame him for that. Cats are loners when it suits them, but they still require attention on demand.

Happens every year with us.

Neighbours go away locking their cat out while the gran comes around to put food out in the garden once a day.

Cat ignores that and lives with us for a fortnight.

Neighbours return and cat doesn't set paw in our place until next year's holiday season.
