We live near Barton so light aircraft are over the area all the time(and the very noisey GMP helicopter) but today we had a nice biplane come over heading toward the SW nice throaty engine note as he was flying into the wind seemed to labour the engine abit.No idea of the ID or type.

I was in Suffolk today and heard something that sounded a bit like a Spitfire or P-51 going over. At least that's my guess as it sounded like a Merlin engine and I know Spits and P-51s have Merlin engines. I went to the window twice to look for it but couldn't see it. It must have been behind some trees, or maybe over the roof. Actually it might have been a Hurricane.

Forums are great aren't they?

There's a green moth based at Barton and there was a yellow one there on Wednesday, could have been one of those.

I forgot to add that it was yellow so could have been a Gypsy Moth?

I was driving along the A12 (Essex to Suffolk) on Saturday afternoon (4-5pm ish) and there were two P51s* heading West to East yesterday afternoon. Near Dedham, I think. Car's sunroof was open and I heard them before I saw them. Glorious.

* Well, the second was definitely a P51, couldn't really see the first one well enough, but it seemed to have the same shape.

OP - there was a show on here in Poynton on Saturday and a biplane (can't remember the colour) did a display at maybe 1000 followed by another at 1600ish. It makes sense that it would have flown out of Barton as it's only about 15 miles away as the crow flies.
