I looked at a cheap Peugeot 306 earlier today with the fatehr-in-law and was rather surprised to find the dipstick tube completely rusted through just below the top.

So is this a very bad thing, what has caused it and how easy is it to fix? I always thought the dipstick had to be nicely sealed to stop oil coming out when running the engine at speed.

Not going to buy the car anyway as some other issues, but I'm still interested in this problem.

Cheers.

PS. Googling "Rusty Dipstick" provides some interesting results, especially on Urban Dictionary. eek

Seen many go like that,it must be the TU engine model.Just a funny "quirk" nothing wrong with the Peugeot/Citroen TU engine and the 306 was a great model. The dip stick comes in two parts, one bolt at the top and the upper part just pulls out of the lower part,5min job.

Cheers, will running the car like that cause any issues though?

Not really,a bit of oil around thats all.It would be a good idea to have an accurate dip stick as the old TU`s have been known to use oil.

This one had an electronic dipstick on the dash.
