Hi guys, I posted this in Audi too but it's not necessarily specific... a ring has dropped to the floor & disappeared into the floorpan on my friend's A4 (it's the current shape). Can't be found with fingers or torch but there are a few places it could have dropped down. He obviously doensn't want to start taking the seats out, but is willing to take it to a garage, I am loathe to get him to take it to Audi as I can see them charging £500 in labour to remove the seats & carpet, but I will if I have to, the item lost was irreplaceable. My mate lives in Hemel Hempstead, south Herts, does anyone know of a good independent (Audi / VAG?) specialist that is very honest that might be able to help please? I have a Boxster & find that the independent garages do a better job & for less money than the main dealers & for a job like this I really need somewhere honest & reliable...

Many Thanks.

It's like 1 year old, the issue is that there are multiple connectors for the airbag etc, and even with the seats out lifing the carpet might not be easy, need someone who knows the cars well. i'd need to disconnect battery, cars are so electronic these days, and it's my mates & he wouldn't want me to do anything like that as he's just bought it. if it was a 10 year old banger then wouldn't be an issue.

Any chance it is magnetic?

If so get one of those magnety things (what are they called????) on a flexible metal cord/handle, and start poking around.

tried the coathanger, problem is there are a few holes where the seat mounts are etc then a 5cm gap to the floorpan & it could move freely under that, tried with a coathanger for ages but no luck & the ring is not magnetic

May sound daft but can't you get hoover with a very thin flexi tube and stick that down the holes?

If you could suck it up the hoover you'd then just have to get it out of the bag.

This!

I used to clean helicopters using this method, a piece of hosepipe wedged into the end of the vacuum pipe, we were supposed to check for ammunition before we started but chances are if there were some we couldn't see the pipe would find it! So a bullet weighing a lot more than a ring would shoot across the floor from in a corner so the ring might work it's way out!

Bought one of these yesterday. Totally amazed at the colour image quality at that price - and 3 year warranty. Now sitting in the tool chest waiting for a reason to use it.

I'm sure you haven't even been slightly tempted to poke it through the hole in your neighbour's fence...
