Hi all,

I've been browsing on here for a fair few years. Yet, never registered... My first post... Money related (has car content). I since sold a car to a very nice German gentleman. The price was £3500, he gave me 4250 euro in cash to cover any small costs / hassle involved. This should equate to around £3750. I do not need the GBP in cash. Just simply to pay in the euro into my UK barclay bank. Can I do this without paying a large commission? 'selling' the 4250 euro to the post office I get in return around £3250! A difference of £500!

Please help. smile

You can open a Euro bank account with Barclays. I opened one when we first bought our house on France but now I have an account with a French bank.

You could open a euro account from barclays (not sure of the costs involved), or one from citibank, which I know is free and has a decent exchange rate. I have one and from what I remembered there was no hassle opening it online.

http://www.travelmoneymax.com to find the best/most convenient deal for you.

Should make it about £3,700.

I have one of these with GBP - EUR - and USD. They are very handy as you get a debit card. Means that not only do you get really sound exchange rates, but you can switch the ccy attached to your card. That way, if in the US, you dont pay foreign trans fees, same thing in Europe. All at no charge.

Indeed, they're utterly brilliant!
