Hi all

I'm looking to buy a car for around £3k.

I'm ideally looking for something that is packed full of gadgets (leather, air con, parking sensors, sat nav, etc) but also something that is pretty nifty round country roads and is fun to drive.

Manufacturer, age, mileage aren't massively important.

Does anything like this exist?!

Forget parking sensors and nav, buy an Alfa GTV V6.

Sat nav is the least of my preferences to be honest with you - but I cannot live without my parking sensors!!

RX8 has to be the performance bargain of the century. The only thing that puts me off is the disputed milage claims, along with oil consumption.

Well that can be lived with, just retrofit parking sensors.

as said before - retro fit parking sensors = £250, Tom Tom = £200 - Total £450.

Leaves £2500 minimum to get something special - Alfa a good shout, or how about an e46 coupe, Celica 190, CLK or the PH standard - the MX5

Yawn. Oil consumption isn't terribly bad whatsoever. Higher consumption than a non rotary vehicle but not enough to be off putting or a deciding factor.

They are absolute bargains nowadays and as long as you do your research you'd be fine.

I was looking into an RX8 but have heard some bad rap about them from a couple of ex-users?

I knew I would get flamed re: parking sensors!! I can park but I guess I have just become reliant over the last four years. I retro-fitted them on my current car so I guess it's not an issue to do again - just would be handy

RX8 for that price, without question.

Biggest issue with RX8's is the fuel consumption rather than oil surely?

Sounds like an E36/E46 to me. Anything else with your desired characteristics seems to me a massive risk on running costs.

For instance, RX-8. Personally I think you'd have to be bonkers to go that route. Check-out the link,

http://www.reliabilityindex.com/reliability/search...

Reliability rating "poor". Average repair cost "£580".
This compares with a much better reliability rating and £250 average repair costs on the BMW.

Yeah, the reliability factor was what was concerning me with the RX8.

Essentially I have just got a new job and my commute has reduced from 400+ miles a week to 20 miles a week. I shall be walking/cycling to work and will only use the car for occasional business trips and weekends.

Not sure about BMWs/Mercs?Jags - think I would have to take a much older car to be able to afford it
