Wonder if anyone can help with this query.

Over the last year I have been at 2 parties, one at a bowling club and one in a function suite, where kids under 18 were not allowed to stay on past a certain time, think it was maybe 9 or 10.

But have also been at other private functions in function suites attached to pubs where the kids were allowed to stay to the bitter end.

Anyone know what the laws are? Is it up to licencees own discretion or are there specific rules?

There are laws relating to minors but they vary depending the type of license you have. As far as I'm aware, if you have an 'entertainment license' (i.e., what you need to stay open after 1am), there is technically NO age restruction (although something about folk under 14 not being allowed in the 'bar area'). It's fairly complex and confusing!
