I discovered a lot of play in the drivers side front wheel on my Saxo VTR. I'd just finished putting on new discs/pads and when I put the wheel on I noticed the play when I held it at six o'clock and rocked it. My first thought was the bearing worn so had new one fitted at the weekend but.......I just replaced a perfectly good bearing because the play is still there. For information,I fitted new lower suspension arm and a driveshaft in the last few months.I checked that the new disc is secured to the hub,the hub nut is tight, and the bottom ball joint has no movement. I did notice that when the wheel is rocked I can see the same movement in the driveshaft at the back of the hub also. Can anyone shed light on poss cause of all this play ??? Cheers

does the hub and driveshaft end move with the upright or wobble inside it?

if the whole thing is moving, it could be the strut top mount, or even fron wishbone inner bushes

No,the upright doesn't move. When I grab the wheel or disc @ 6 o'clock and rock it I notice the driveshaft moving with it behind the hub. So it seems to wobble at the hub.

Thanks a lot Doogz. Appreciate you uploading the pics. I didnt know there were 2 different driveshaft ends.I bought it from GSF and gave them the reg of the car,so you'd assume they gave me the correct one? Anyway I'll have a look at how the shaft end sits in the hub.I presume the two different types of ends are the same diameter and have the same number of splines??

Looking at the two shafts in the photos there is a considerable difference in size adjacent the face of the cv joint I would not care to run that as it is cos some thing is def wrong!!and is not safe

Looking at the shafts in the pic,I realised that the hub nut on my shaft is the same as the one on the shaft on the left in the pic. Whereas the nut that came with the new bearing I had fitted is like the one on the shaft on the right in the pic. Therefor it could mean that presuming GSF sold me the correct bearing with that bigger nut then the shaft they sold me may be the wrong one???? This is doing my head at the moment guys!!!

if you have fitted the wrong driveshaft the wheel bearing will be chewed up pretty quickly, best thing would be to check the other side as long as you haven't replaced both.

Easiest way to see if you have the right parts, is to look at them with the old ones before fitting..

Just wanted to say thanks to all who replied with their thoughts on the problems I had. Its been solved now. The driveshaft I was sold was in the right box with the correct labeling/part no. etc., but unfortunately the manufacturers had put the wrong shaft in the box ( The one on the left in Doogz pic). It should have been the one on the right which I've now got. Cheers guys.
