Researchers at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette have shown alligator fat to be an effective feedstock for biodiesel production. The team, led by Rakesh Bajpai, has published its findings in the American Chemical Society journal

Technically you would be putting the tail in.

I wander if the technology is viable to get the entire processing package in the same size as a fuel tank so you can just stop at the side of the road and stuff small animals into the fuel filler.

I can't see them being able to produce it on a big enough scale.

I think it's as a byproduct...

According to information released by the ACS, the alligator meat and skin industry disposes of approximately 15 million pounds of alligator fat in landfills each year, primarily in Louisiana and Florida. Rather than buried as waste, the study has determined that material could be rerouted to a biorefinery for conversion into biodiesel.

I don't think wholesale slaughter of 'gators for fuel would be well received!!
