Mark,
please don't take this ill mate as i think you and i have a good relationship.

Opening up you posts is a bit like watching my beloved Arsenal....I never know what to expect next !!
I am worried you/Wenger are gonna throw good money after bad.

It seems to me you have (on more than one occassion) been distracted by shiny bits and go faster stripes (if you know what i mean !!)

I think your car has the makings of a good un for sure (for those who have not seen it, the body is straight and cleans up very nice....interior is shot though ).

But you clearly need to focus any money you have on the running of the car, and not the bling!! (Shiny rockers, new spots etc etc.)
Someone will always be happy to sell you something you don't necessarily need right now !!

You are clearly able to work on the mechanics to a large degree, and maybe need to wait for dry weather and not get bored and "look" for bling jobs to do, it could turn out to be a complete waste of money.
Patch the valance for now, regardless of how it looks !!

I think Andy Tank is in no rush to sell you the part for fear it is wasting your hard earned "at this time" !!
Whatever you pay for the valance, is money you could have spent on the fuel system etc etc.

I know the car is your only transport, and i know you don't need to get to a job everyday, so time is on your side.....patience my friend.

Worse case scenario, you take a long hard look one day and decide to cut your losses......think about all the odds and sods you bought, and jobs you did that were a waste of time and money.
(My interior needs re-stitched, and the alloys need a refurb as they look terrible. But untill i am happy with the drivetrain and mechanics....i wont be investing in any other dept yet !!)

You have made some great friends on here and through the car Zig.
Maybe its been said before, and i'm sure many will agree with me, be patient mark and get her driving properly first.
Everytime i read a post about body bits and bling i cringe !! (honestly worrying you are wasting money).

Get her in order before you get out of order.

You know me well enough to know this is not a snide dig Mark (not my style at all as you know i would do that behind peoples backs !!!!)....just one of the mates you made trying to give you an outsiders veiw.

The car could be great, but make sure the heart and lungs are strong enough to carry around the make up bag !!

Had to say it mate

Gavin

Well said!

Yes Mark you do seem to spend good money after bad!

The basic's is what is needed!
Especially as you are on a tight budget, in fact I am suprised you have managed to keep it running on what finance you do have for along as you have!
To be honest personally I would get rid of the car and buy say a Dagnham dustbin as a run about, till you are in a stiuation were you can afford and run a good TIV and then start again!

If you still want me to sort out the spoiler I will, but please take on board what Gavin and I have said!

Andy

Thanks for the advice chaps..And yes its good sound advice..I totally agree but at one point i did think i had it all working right thats why i spent a bit on bling bling..But i was wrong and learnt a hard valuable lesson..My goal now is to get it all running properly..The fuel problem has been tackled and its now the water systems turn..The interior can be done at any time and im going to do that myself as it is a lot cheaper..Infact a hell of a lot cheaper..But the running gear and the engine do need to be addressed first...I know i do moan about it and probably too much but i still love it to bits and wouldnt want to get rid of it in exchange for a pile of st that no-one looks at and gives me no pleasure what so ever..Call me old fashioned but i still believe you should enjoy driving as difficult as it is in todays climate..The car has been my therapy as i suffered badly from agoraphobia for over twenty years and it has helped me tremendously..I wouldnt say that it has cured me but it has made my life 50-70% more bearable..Imagine being in a coma for twenty years..THATS what its like!...So if i were to give up on it then i would be giving up on myself, I would fall back into the cell like mode and no-one would hear from me ever again...None of us know how long we got on this god for saken planet and all i want to do is enjoy some of it, Even if it is sometimes very stressfull..This forum and the people on it have been my life-line and for that i thank you..I know the road is rocky but it wont be rocky long...So once again..Thanks..Ziga

Not sure about the Dag dust Andy !!

Keeping your car is a viable option Zig, as you don't need it on a daily basis.
This gives you the luxury of time to fiddle (wey hey !!)

Right now, i have a flat tyre (screw on the side, non repairable so new tyre AAAAAAAArrghhhh!!! £90+) and a window that cant go up....and have no time to do either (wife, two kids yada yada yada.)
And wanted to have family time over the weekend, so none for the car. I havent started her for two weeks either !! (Car and wife !!)

Few of us are actually able to use the cars as much as we would like, but then, most of us have a daily hack for work etc etc.

Patience and frugality as well as boxing clever is the order of the day.

I would hate to lose the Zig because he quit, became bankrupt or just too despondent !! (particularly to another Marque)

Sound like really good advice to me Ziga,
The time was not right for me to have a TVR for 13 years.....which sucked big time, I know!
Can you not get what you need from the breakers,Bell hill or dougles Vally, To save cash and get it running Im sure it must be a gnats cock off of being a great car.......
Other than that I cant say any more than what has been said other than stick with it and best of luck Bud

I'll echo what Gavin and Andy have said - forget the spoiler (duck tape for the mo') and concentrate on making it 'go, safe and legal' so you can have some 'Me therapy' for a while longer.
Once its running build up a bit in reserve before spending on stuff that doesn't contribute to the 'go/safe/legal' bit and you will sleep alot easier I am sure.
It is great to see someone so dedicated and passionate as yourself and hopefully with these friendly posts you can keep your chin up as you seem to do.
ATB, Paul.

My point is the Tiv is his only car, he is struggling to keep it on the road, and with his luck he always will and at some time he will not!
So he needs a car which starts when ever he does need it! A Dag Dust of a VH shovit will do that OK for a lot less. He can then save money (Instead of poring it down drain) till he has enough to get a good one!
Sorry his car body is okish but the rest is pants, especailly if you don't have enough funds to sort it!

Its ok Andy..my mate is giving me his vespa which takes up no space and cost less on insurance than a second car..Its perfect for nipping down to the motor factors to get bits if i need them and getting about on if the TVR decides to stop working..However at this moment in time it does start when i want it to its just overheating and that will be sorted soon..I will chip away at the interior as i can do the carpet myself and even recover the centre console..I have the templates for my doorcards which just need cutting out and covering..I have a set of good condition leather seats that another kind wedger has put aside for me..Which i will pick up as soon as i can..Which just leaves the hood..Which doesnt leak so its not the end of the world..Besides if all goes well with something i have planned then i can easily afford a V8...If not then i will keep mine for a little while longer...cheers..Ziga

Welcome to Wedge land JD.

Wedge land is a special place.

I entered some time ago & the Wedgies adopted me as their pet Chimp.

Its been proven that Wedge land is more fun than Chimp world.

I pop in now & again to tease my cheese shaped friends, always puts a smile on my face.

Wedgies are a good bunch.

NB: Wedgies should note that JD is currently giving his Chimp a blow job with the help of Jamie Rogers of Castle Automotive Performance.

It's sure to be one wild ride wink

True - it wasn't as painful as I expected and my tailpipe bore hasn't been affected
