New Colour For Alfa Romeo 4C Concept

Production version next year, but we'll have to make do with a new paint job for now, says Alfa

Series production of the Alfa 4C mid-engined coupe will begin next year, Alfa Romeo has confirmed.

In the meantime, however, we'll have our appetites whetted once again for the new 200bhp-plus lightweight rear-drive coupe with an updated version of the concept first shown at Geneva back in March.

Well, we say updated - the changes to the car for the forthcoming Frankfurt motor show actually consist of, er, a new paintjob. But if these renderings are anything to go by the new 'Fluid Metal' metallic silver should look pretty good.

Alfa hasn't yet confirmed specs or performance figures for its new sports car, but the production 4C is expected to make extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium in the body and sub frame to help keep the weight to around 850kg, while the 1.7-litre turbocharged engine is expected to deliver around 230bhp.

would be nice to see that Alfa on the road, with that weight and mid engine it sounds very good if the price is right too.

The matt red did look very pink in pictures ! Love the look of this but wonder on price - dropping the carbon and going GRP could make it £5-10k cheaper.....

I still think the engine's in the wrong place- it should be in the front. New Duetto anyone?

Engine in the front means a proper boot for mini-GT activities and more benign on-limit handling for more fun. Who wouldn't want an Italian MX-5?

And it's got the wrong gearbox.

That colour is a huge improvement over the matt red one. I especially like the little Italian flags on the wingmirrors.

Overall I love it but for me, the headlights just aren't right. They're too big, or the wrong shape, or too high up or something. It makes its face look too big.

Still take one though

Engine in the middle is fine once you get the hang of it. Granted, it's not as benign as a F/R layout, but it's supposed to be a mini supercar!!!

Just treat it with respect, take some advanced driving lessons, find out where the limits are and what happens when you overstep them, and it's not an issue.

Love this car, really want one. Hope the weight/price/styling stays similar.

No, you just have to remember what my VX220 taught me (luckily by spinning at Bedford and not on the road): DON'T LIFT!!

I think it is a cracking looking bit of kit. Agree it should be a manual. So refreshing to see low weight and decent power being quoted - Italian automatic Exige?
