I'm thinking of going the t/c or s/c route but have no idea on what is availalbe/cost.

I'd hope for over 200bhp, not sure how much extra poke 165bhp would give?

Any pointers please?

Try to be more specific, that's an incredibly open-ended question, people could write for days and not finish.

Start by reading the various forums FI sub sections, i.e. MX5Nutz, MiataTurbo.net and Miata.net

Run as fast as you can to the MX5PArts website to get in on the sale that ends tonight !
He'll struggle to find a turbo/supercharger on there won't he?

He'd be better off e-mailing everythingmx5 about the cost of their turbo kits including fitting.

£1k should get you a secondhand Jackson Racing Supercharger kit with basic fuelling, which will in theory increase power by 40%. I've got one for sale at the moment, but unfortunately it's for a Mk2. After that, with an open wallet, the sky is the limit : standalone ECU, bigger injectors, reduction pully, intercooler, Water Injection, bigger clutch, etc, etc.

Looking to do something similar and have decided SC is the way I want to go, is there a specific set of guidelines for supercharging out there, I read the piece on Nutz talking about Turbo vs supercharging but didn't find an 'idiots guide' (yes I'm mechanically special).

Can 200bhp be readily achieved with an M45 SC or do I need to go MP62?

Ideally I'd like some help speccing the parts I need and then I'm happy to pay someone to fit them and tune the car.

Speak to MX5lives on Nutz.
He did a drive in, drive out M45 charger install for £1200 some time ago.
He's based in Solihull.

Yes 200bhp and more can be achieved with an M45 but you are pushing it pretty much as fast as it can go to get there. An MP62 is much easier and very comfortable at that level - mine is nowhere near the limit at 243bhp biggrin

200bhp is pretty much the limit for the M45. you may eek out 10-15bhp more, but that's your lot, and you're on the bleeding edge.

If 200+ is your goal, it's either a turbo or an MP62/Rotrex supercharger.

When choosing between Turbos and Superchargers, don't forget the golden rule.

It's true. Girls love my supercharger - it's a good job the car is so fast or I wouldn't get home in one piece! Only guys are attracted to turbos so if that's what you want to attract then that's your lifestyle choice biglaugh

Im sure there are some jokes around suck and blow but I can't think of them right now.

I've never been in a S/C'd car. I'd like to experience one.

We are just up the road in Northampton and have a supercharged mk1 merlot - currently running a jackson Racing mp45 on the standard set up. More than welcome to meet up and have a pax ride.

Jackson Racing superchargers and power cards go on MX5 Nutz for between £750 - £1,000 which will get you to the 170ish bhp. After that your looking at intercooler, bigger injectors, different pulleys, dual throttle body, piggyback ecu's etc etc which is where it starts to REALLY add up!!

It is true that you pay a lot of money for the extra 30sih bhp to get to the magic 200 bhp figure. That said we've got the extra bits to go on over winter, but the car is running so well and a lot of fun in the standard Jackson Racing form at the moment ....... smile

No, it's the other way around.

The JR is an M45, the MINI supercharger is an MP45, a later generation of blower.

I wouldn't be surprised if the JR noncomlmenture says that it's an MP45, if it does, it's wrong. I know MOSS used to call the JR kit an MP45.
