Hi people...

I went through a period a month back of wanting to chop the Mondeo in for a petrol loony car as my daily drive, however, I have discarded this idea as I want to swap my STi for an Evo next year. Therefore, I am back looking at what I can change the Mondeo for (sorry to all those who commented last time)...

So, needs to be an oil burner that returns 50MPG+ on a 80MPH run. Needs bluetooth for my phone and a reasonable stereo. Needs to have a quality feel inside - I spend ages in my car (this is why the Mondeo is going)...

I have never driven an Auto before and would not be opposed to one (a 5 series manual for example just does not seem right as a manual - saying that however never having driven one).

So far I have looked at:

BMW 3 Series - Not many have the iDrive and lots have cloth seats. Which bloody engine.
BMW 5 Series - Like a space ship, most seem to have all the toys. Lovely place to be. Again, which engine.
Volvo S60 - Really nice seats. Lots of car for the money. Not sure about the engine.
Audi - Know nothing about these. Seem to come with more toys.

I could get 10-11K of car (I have 6K'ish to spend)...

If I end up keeping the Mondeo and instead spending the money on an engine rebuild for the STi or a comprehensive set of Le Creuset pans for the kitchen, then I promise never to ask another what car thread on here...

Thanks

-P

We have Le Creuset pans. The tri-stainless steel ones. Highly recommended.

rofl I always spend considerable time looking at these when in Debenhams with the OH... I don't mind this thread turning into a dual purpose one... Should I sacrifice the iDrive and leather seats for the Le Creuset pans?

YES!

Trust me, the loss of the family Le Creuset pans was mourned for longer than some departed family members, they were 35y/o when the first one broke.

Oh and on a less important note, 320d with toys, there is a reason why there are so many of the buggering things about.

I have only ever driven a 320d for a little diatance and it was a manual, so probably not the best person to ask.
Either that or a 1 series, i have driven a few more of them and the 118d seems to do everything you want pretty well.

In fact i have even seen a 118d return 40+mpg whilst on a hoon and he was not being left too far behind.

118 is a little too small. Also, no real hooning in this wink
