Interesting roads and places between Stonehenge and Poole?
Discussion
Woman and I are taking a trip down to Poole, from The North. She wants to see Stonehenge, but by the time we get down to that area I'll be bored stiff of main roads and motorways.
So, anything worth visiting on a Saturday afternoon in the area, or any cracking bits of road where I can play evo photographer? Or even any childishly silly rude place names?

Head to Shaftesbury then take the B3081 across and down to the B3078 which will get you almost to Poole.
Duly noted. So hard to tell how good a road is from a map, ta muchly. (And to the other poster!Pabl0 said:
The Great Dorset Steam Fair, at Tarrant Hinton on the A354 between Blandford Forum and Salisbury, may cause traffic problems around the area. Not too sure how busy it gets because of it on the Saturday.
Good point, steer well clear. Traffic chaos is an understatement when the
fest is on. Even got stuck round there for 1/2 hour on Sunday as they were all turning up a week early!Having said that, the zig-zag hill road shouldn't be too bad so long as you all the way to six-penny handley without touching the A354.

Duly noted - will wiggle our way around on the B-roads, ta all.
I'd say from the 'Henge head towards Airman's Corner on the Devizes road, turn left on the A360 to Salisbury crossing the A303. Take the left a mile or two outside Salisbury to Wilton. The house is worth a visit and you might see the Earl's Veyron (unlikely I suspect).Go through Wilton and take the road to Broad Chalke - follow the signs all the way to Sixpenny Handley (this should avoid all the Steam Fair traffic). Turn right to Shaftesbury and you'll take in Zig-Zag hill.
The direct route to Poole is down the A350 which is the biggest a**e pain road in Dorset so avoid. Whatever you do don't use the A350 through Charlton Marshall/Spetisbury from Blandford. It will do your head in with the coffin dodgers studiously watching their speedo's in the 30 limit. Stick to the secondary roads - they're not brilliant but certainly more interesting.
