Check your gearbox front and rear oil seals. Its easy enough to change them if needed while you are there.

If you're doing the slave, you should do the master too.

Had a look at that when I thought it was leaking, can manage that myself. I've heard Series 2 Land Rover ones fit?

If you are going to do the master as well - it wouldn't hurt to change the braided hoses too.

I'm toying with replacing the whole damn lot. Want to get it sorted once and for all.

Could be Steve, just thought I'd seen it here somewhere. Anyway, will get the slave sorted first.

I'm going to start stripping the gearbox out on Friday to instal my newly delivered Raceproved unit. I really hope this one lives up to the hype, I can't face going through the process a 3rd time!

Well, this'll be the second time for me in 4 months, so atleast this time I've got half an idea as to what I'm doing this time!

Ouch! I feel your pain - been there and done that! On the bright side a Raceproved slave did finally cure the problem for me. Have fun!

I would look carefully at the bellhousing to see if you have one of the type the raceproved clutch won't fit in without filing down the holding bolts.

Its a pain to put it all on and then have a scraping noise when you start the car.

I talked through with Russell at Raceproved the set up on my car and he seemed pretty sure it'll be fine, but your comment worries me a little! What are the tell-tale signs of the bell housing being the wrong type?

Looking at the Raceproved website, they suggest the slave won't fit pre 1998 cars. Mines 1999, but will still have a chat with them, and Andy, first.

I believe there were three makes of bell housing on TVRs. If you search back you'll find a thread where all three were found and photo'd for reference. (I'm afraid I'm useless at searches)

Some time back Mike was changing his clutch and finding there was no way it'd fit in the bellhousing. It turned out the only way was either a swap of bellhousing or putting an angle on the heads which wasn't ideal cos if they ever moved it would scrape again. Racproved were rung at length about this and would know all about it so I think they've either changed their design or have identified your bell housing as no problem.

Worth asking though.

Its also worth doing a side by side comparison of the new slave with the old one. Some early slaves were a different height.

According to Russell at Raceproved, the pre-1998 issue relates to the size of the original clutch assembly. The old style clutch was a much thiner piece of kit meaning that the slave was longer to suit. My car has had both the clutch and slave assemblies replaced by previous owners to the post-1998 type.

As for the bell housing, I have no idea! I notice that the existing slave has countersunk machine screws holding it in place, whereas the new slave from raceproved has counterbores and is sullied with caphead machine screws. I assume this is what Julian refers to as the part that catches/fouls?
