I think you may well be right...a split down the middle.

My fear is that we will get something designed by coffee-swilling focus groups rather than the guys on the plantations who grew the coffee who are more likely to know what the NextGen Defender should be.
Defenders are tools not lifestyle choices.

As R.Hammond rightly said when pitching the Land Rover as the Greatest Car of all Time on TopGear in 2003 "it is totally and utterly classless. It tells the world nothing about the size of your wallet, your aspirations, your success or your abilities in the bedroom. In a Land Rover you can work the land or you can own the land"

This new model has the potential to be a real break through.. especially if TATA have some input as to its target markets. They have to be looking more outside Europe/US.....taking some of the best design and material improvements in the past 10-15years and melding it with the 60+ yrs worth of experience which exists in the current and past models.

I blogged more of my thoughts on this at www.best4x4xfar.co.uk

Hi Peter

I have got the limited edition Land Rover Defender Black 110 double cab.
Seeing the new shape for some reason scares me ... a lot.
When I drive around and see other makes of 4x4s and the drivers try and beat me in a red light start or on a normal road, it makes me chukkle.
One prick in a brand new porshe 911 turbo put his foot down before the next set of lights because his 7 year old son could not take his eyes of my Landy.

Because I know I am driving the best4x4xfar and off road those other 'cars' just do not come in the same contest.(believe me, I know)
But what scares me is that I always feel 100% 'The man' in my Landy, but I hope the new one gets the same repect as my 110 now.
Plus I will have to buy a new shape one of them as well.
