here's the deal.

bought c4s end feb 2004. rear outside wheel treads according to 87 point check carried out 26/1 were 5mm for left tyre and 4mm for right tyre.

service carried out (FOC) end April... came back with warning that tyre tread for same area was down to 1.2mm.

covered 2000 miles in that time (2 journeys down to cornwall (1200 miles total)with nagging pregnant wife who wouldn't let me drive over 90).

no trakc days, donuts etc etc for the other 800 miles either. just normal driving...

is it possible to lose that much tread? or do you think the service dept were confusing nanmoetres with pecometres and pulling a fast one on me to avoid replacing the tyres on delivery?

oh my gawd
i want to shake you by the hand!!!

Was told after my service this week that my tyre wear indicates a very very heavy right foot.
My reply was " erm i can neither confirm nor deny that mys speeds have ever exceeded any posted speed limits, top speed please"

My last set of rears lasted 6,000 miles. You should find under normal road use the inside tread wears down quicker than the outside.

Good for you

Tread wear is un-even due to roundabouts. The poor folk of Milton Keynes (in more ways than one) have markedly higher wear on one side from the other. Overall wear naturally depends on manufacturer / rubber but it is possible they measured your depth a tad on the generous side and now want to sell you some tyres. Frankly I recommend you never get tyres from and OPC always go to specialist.

result!!!

after posting, i sent an email to head of sales at reading - very nice lady - who promptly responded and acknowledged it was not ideal, but educating me that these tyres do wear quickly.

as a gesture she offered to pay for half the cost of replacement.

good on you ms. loder, you now have and very satisfied customer and guaranteed returning business...
