Road Bike Mudguards

I'm hoping PH will be able to suggest a product that will work for me...

I'm riding a Boardman Team Carbon 2010 on my daily commute which I bought at the start of the year. I bought a set of Crud Road Racer 2 mudguards shortly after buying the bike but couldn't get them to fit. The weather dried up and I forgot all about them. Roll forward to present time and I'm feeling the need for some wet weather protection. I had another go at fitting the Road Racers but there isn't enough room between the tyre and the frame and the guard rubs on the tyre.

So I'm after a set of guards that will be suitable for my bike - small clearance and no specific mudguard mounting points. Any recommendations?

If anyone wants a set of the Crud guards going cheap let me know.

Fwiw I had the same issue on my
Old bike, and I chopped them up and eventually made them work!

But new bike is fine, so pm me with price.

OP, the Crud Road Racers are buggers to fit. I fitetd them to my Wilier winter bike. The rear was fairly easy to fit but the front took about three hours of fettling using a file to create more clearance between the top of the front tyre and the inside of the fork and a heat gun to bend/mould the plastic to stop the rubbing. I had very little clearance between the forks and the tyre, roughly about 4mm but made the Cruds fit by using the methods above. They now work fine and do not rub at all, however as it is a winter bike they are saying on there for some time.

Raceblades work fine, you need to protect the frame/forks with some helicopter tape, though.

Your bike and its tight clearances/lack of fixing points means your choice is somewhat limited. There's the Crud Road Racer as you've already got, and the SKS Race Blade:

...which I've never heard much positive about, unlike the Road Racers, which are much, much better.

I've been using blades for about 3 years now. Been great. I've tried to go to crud racers as they seem to look better but twice not been able to fit and both times sent back. This has been on a Scott CR1 Pro frame, a Cervelo S2 and a Litespeed Sienna. Very very frustrating as they get great reviews and seem to have better coverage than the blades. ( I just can't get them to fit under rear brake without the tyre rubbing hard)

What part of the bike do those clips go on to - is it the pair of tubes that runs down to either side of the rear wheel (if that makes sense?)

I use race blades and in most conditions they're fine (although I try to avoid the worst of the wet). I bought some Crud Racer 2 but never got round to fitting them. If anyone wants a brand new set drop me a PM.

They're called seatstays, and the answer is yes.

Raceblades only cover the wheel as far as the brakes, so they're not perfect, by any means, but adequate on a close-clearance frame.

Cruds Mk2 went straight on to my Team Carbon this week, but it is the 2011 model. Did they change much from the previous year? They won't fit my AirPro though as the clearance on that is akin to a gnats cock!
