I am just listening to Jeremy Vine and we are apparently going to have a massive increase in electricity pylons to manage the power from wind farms etc rolleyes

There is a woman on the prog called 'Flash' Bristow (oh my god, what the hell has happened to this country?) who loves Pylons. She really 'loves' them.
They don't blight the landscape (she says) because you can see 'through' them.

I keep repeating this country has lost the plot, and every single day I hear something that proves I'm right.

God, she even has a website http://www.gorge.org/pylons/

Ah, penny has dropped. She even has a 'Pylon Appreciation Society'.
Anyone can become a member....

just send her £15 to join! rolleyes

I have learned to change over to 6 Music when I hear the voice of Jeremy Vine - the house is then a happier place...

So you miss the JY prog and had to be subjected to the JV prog. biggrin

I'm old enough to remember listening to JY on Luxembourg! He lost his cred with 'housewife's choice'.

Although Dr Philip Stott on Radio 4's Home Planet is worth a listen as he is a bit of a sceptic.

Isn't it places like Australia who rightly acknowledge that pylons are a horrible blight and bury the cables in a lot of areas. I appreciate this will cause some further issues, but isn't this the answer?

There's an anti-pylon campaign near where I live. The supporters think that pylons give them brain cancer.

Burying them is just more expensive.

Nah, I could get Al Gore and quite a few others in a relatively small pit. In fact, we could just throw them into a quarry. Not much cost there, in fact significant savings on the taxation we are paying for their assertions which don't appear to be founded on facts...........

Agree about Dr Stott, but have you noticed that he is never on the panel when 'Climate Change' topics are on, but always there any other time.

In South Africa a lot of cables are being moved on to poles and pylons as buried cables and cables attached to bridges were being ripped up for the metal.

Nice housing layout! Was the Pylon there first?

Still, does it beat having one in your front garden?

Yes, I think the Pylon was there first and the development was built around it.

The one you've shown is just bizarre.

How can you stand to listen to Jeremy Vine. His speech pattern is one of the most irritating I know. It's bad enough when he is on the telly but radio seems to make it even harder to take.
Having said that , it's probably because I have been spoilt by Charlotte Green.
Ah yes Charlotte...(sigh).
She has a face for radio but I could listen to her all day. :¬)

Simples.
Put two feet on the ground. hehe

I agree he's irritating (and not only his speech pattern!) but the thread is intended to be about Pylons, not Vine.

That's just terrible. There no way I'd buy a house there not only because it looks bad but I'm sure that can't be good for you.

Wonder how an estate agent would do a 'photo' of one the houses if for sale?
Bet they wouldn't include the pylon. What a shock if you turned up to view!

Chrise, look to the right of the (link)pic and there is another row of pylons marching on!

We have a fair few around Oxfordshire but mostly they stride the countryside, not housing.
