Time to get some new tyres for the Honda Civic work horse! It's a 2007 Civic Type S GT 2.2 CDTi and we do about 45,000 miles a year in it. The only problem up to now has been the tyres getting battered after about 20k miles though these have generally jut been replaced come the thrice yearly service by whatever standard tyres Honda fit. Has anyone got any recommendations on tyres that might last a bit longer? We do about 160 miles a day on the motorway and general usage on the weekends and the evenings and it takes 225/45/17 Y tyres! Thanks chaps!

Michelin usually last longest but cost more. Horses for courses.

I had the same size tyres on both my Vectra and Astra. The Astra was a 200hp/310lbft diesel, so ate a pair of EagleF1-A in 8k. Replaced with Bridgestone Turanza ER300 and got 20k out of them.

On the Vectra, the ER300 were on the front for 18k and still had 4mm tread left.

I'm running the ER300 on my Mondeo too, 11k on the front and they've still 5mm tread.

There's not a huge reduction in grip between the F1-A and the ER300 that I could tell, and the ER300 was a little more precise through the steering wheel.

Uniroyal Rainsports are great but a little soft, lots of people seem to rate the Falken 452's and would be a strong consideration if mileage was a concern.

Generally the harder the tyre (thus the reduced wear) the less grip they have. (IMO)
