Just when you think you've seen it all about this subject...

Talking about driving over body parts to get to The Towers, fireman being killed by falling bodies, senior officers saying "I think we're going to die today,"...

Jesus.

This is one of the most humbling things I have seen on TV.

Just under 350 fire fighters died that day, that is incredible.

I am not man enough to run into a building knowing that the identical twin has just fallen down after suffering the same fate.

Very brave people.

I know a Long Island fire Chief who was there after the collapse to help recover the victims. I'll never forget him telling me about 'picking up body parts' frown

Very humbling to watch, still extremely shocking 10 years on.

The 'driving over body parts' and the fact that 'no trace was found of over 1/2 the victims' were the bits that struck home with me...

Wow.

Best documentary I've seen in a very, very long time. Brought home the true horror of that day. The guy in the brown suit....

If you didn't see it, I would urge you to catch it on 4OD or if its repeated. I've had a bad few weeks but that was incredibly sobering. Looks like there is going to be a similar one about the hospitals on the day on Monday.

Those poor bds. frown

these sort of programs really put the tin foil hat people to shame.

I remember a high up person in the nyfd saying how could he be involved in so many of his friends deaths, when this tin hat people bleet on about stupid things.

programs like this, really does make it real..

Just finished watching it.

Utterly absorbing, humbling, and terrifying in equal measures.

I have to be honest in that I'm a coward and can't bring myself to watch documentaries on this subject. I remember watching the events unfolding live at the time whilst at work (I worked for Merrill Lynch at the time) and the horror we all felt that day doesn't go away.

Good documentary. Can't imagine how awful it was.

My dad (retired fireman) is doing a run in N.Y. in a couple of weeks called Tunnel to Tower.

It follows the route of one of the firemen who was off duty and abandoned his car in a blocked tunnel and ran to get his kit and then to the towers to help (he was one of those who died).

The run has many firefighters taking part and the route is lined with the pictures of those who died.
I think it is a nice way for firefighters around the world to remember and show support.

The documentary made you feel sad but proud of the firefighters.
As others have already said. Watch it.

I welled up when the chief described how he discussed with his lieutenant about a plan then ordered his lieutenant to head up the south tower with a band of men.

"Ordering him up the tower was the last time I ever saw him".

Horrowing but rivetting stuff. Apart from the story of the towers, the insight into the early days of the Mew York fire services was very interesting.

I missed that, is it available on their version of iplayer(assuming they have one). I think i was watching the programme on 5 about the kids who lost their parents. I also watched The Day that changed the world last night on ITV.

He wasn't just his Lieutenant, he was also Chief Pfeifer's own brother frown
