Can anyone answer my question? I have a VW transporter had a new turbo fitted 4 weeks ago and it has already failed. I have noticed a lot of water getting in the oil possible head gasket or cracked head but will that cause my turbo to fail so soon? If not the work will get done through warranty cheers ian

Do you know if it is a watercooled turbo?

You'd need to established how the unit has failed, and then you might be able to tell why it has failed.

And was it new, recon ? What happened originally ?

Not sure if it's water cooled but when the old turbo failed my exhaust had to be drained of oil . The replacement was a brand new garrett model . But when fitted it had a faint whining noise and got worse every week until it failed today with again plenty of smoke out the rear. I have only covered 120 miles with the new turbo!

That may not be the fault of the turbo. Whatever caused the first unit to fail could well be the same thing that has caused the new unit to fail.

Replacing parts is very easy. But there is more to repairing cars than just replacing parts.

You need to find the cause, rather than the after effect.

Could be an oil supply problem, boost hose or other problem.

I would check the oil delivery from the oil feed pipe. They can gradually block up with burnt oil. If a turbo had already failed it shoulod have been checked as a matter of course before fitting a new unit.
