I have a very small amount of space to fit a filing system into, so after some inspiration. I'm getting a desk made, with a draw set to one side, but the wider it is, the less less space I'll have to work. Overall width of desk is 945mm (max), so take say 350mm for a 'traditional' filing system, will give me 600mm to sit and work.

So far, all I can think is to have a traditional drop file system front to back, allowing it to be more like 250mm wide. I'm not going to fit many files in that small area.

I could do a double height system (2 deep draws) but I'd like 1 filing draw, with 2 normal man draws. My other thought was to simplify, just have box files with plastic wallets and stack 3 in a cupboard.

Hows that possible when I need to provide paper copys of bills to prove who I am all the bloody time.

Most stuff is done online, but I need some files. Receipts for goods, warranty's, drivers licence etc

high level shelf with box files? either above the workstation, above a window/doorway?

600 knee hole is going to feel cramped at best if spending a lot of time at it, and most 'armed' office chairs wont fit.

at home i used to have a high level shelf with all my box files, catalogues etc on. although this was mainly to keep them out of the childrens way!

You could try the system I saw for magazines.

It comprised of a few magazine sized boxes mounted on the wall each allowing a dozen or so magazines to be stored behind.

Something like this, wall mounted with file tags sticking out of the side would allow you to file everything you liked without taking up floorspace!

There is reason I posted specific measurements, as I said, it's a desk being made and I have no other space for a shelf, or boxes etc.

Then you're fked then. You can't get a quart into a pint pot! So you tell us what you want to keep and I guarantee you that you probably only need a third of it. Trust me i've worked for Japanese and Korean companies. 5s is your friend wink

Get bank statements on-line. Utilities often give a discount for paperless billing.
Scan everything else then bin the paper copies.
If you need something for proof of identity, just print what you need.

Ah, this is the gambling thread. I was looking for a filing drawer thread. Sorry.
