1M Coupe increased production?
Discussion
Been hearing rumours that 1M production will be extended and numbers increased, not sure if this will apply to the UK market although it has apparently happened elsewhere already. Now call me a cynic but if this turned out to be the case how can BMW justify selling you a vehicle as 1 of 450 (obviously this figure is for the UK market but surely applies to production numbers in other regions too?),and please bear in mind that this is how mine was sold to me..the old be 'quick limited production ands exclusivity' patter.......
Would they now re issue owners with a different plaque ? 1 of 800 if it were doubled or how about 1 of ? , just to save any further confusion.
But joking aside i know i would feel perhaps a little 'peeved' if my 1m became a little less exclusive before i even took delivery of it.
I also wonder if any owners would be entitle to any sort of comeback at BMW if they were that way inclined?
Could be an interesting topic for debate.

I have spoke with 2 UK BMW dealers who know nothing about it and are 100% sure there will not be any more allocated UK 1M's.
The simple issuing of the 1 of 450 plaque says they have no plans and would leave them looking rather silly if they went on to make more.
The only "possibility" is perhaps a 1M GTS/CSL type version but even that is just a big maybe.

It's pure marketing.
They create the demand by only releasing a limited number, and then go on to produce an almost identical product in another limited run.
Even if they released more of the same model you'd have little recourse as the 'limited edition' was a marketing phrase and not a contract specification.

Normally I would agree with you on the above but the issuing of the 1 of 450 plaque although trivial would leave them looking red faced and also the brochures etc states 1 of 450 which isn't a very clever "marketing" if they plan to produce more. They create the demand by only releasing a limited number, and then go on to produce an almost identical product in another limited run.

I cant see there being any more as the hype/press coverage that the 1M has had and the 1 of 450 statements that people were told would get BMW some seriously bad flack from owners/enthusiasts and the media etc.
1 of 450 or 1 of 2000, I'm not overly fussed but If they do produce a 1M CSL/GTS and it is worthy, I will chop the 1M in for one

I complained about an advert once, when they were offering a 'unique' chance to own one of a limited edition of 1,000 cars.
My complaint was that 1,000 of the same model was hardly unique, but the complaint was upheld as the word 'unique' in the advert would be 'reasonably understood to mean limited, rather than one-off', and that almost every car was unique in it's own way due to customisation options, parking scratches, tyre wear, etc.

grr...that's annoying. So they said that Unique means specifically not what unique means. No-one is mislead, because most people don't use the word properly...My complaint was that 1,000 of the same model was hardly unique, but the complaint was upheld as the word 'unique' in the advert would be 'reasonably understood to mean limited, rather than one-off', and that almost every car was unique in it's own way due to customisation options, parking scratches, tyre wear, etc.

The UK will NOT be getting any more 1M's, from what I have read our good old friends in the USA and Australia will be getting a little more allocation. How much are they in Europe ? If there are build slots available over there you could order a RHD car and import it....given the state of the economy I imagine there are cars available.
I know a BMW dealer that did that when the E60 M5 came out....had quite a few customers desperate for one so they rang a few French dealers and ordered RHD cars through them.
No idea how much a 1M is in on the continent though.

I heard Japan and Oz only got 100 RHD between them.
Surely they should have been allocated a few more than that?
Yes we only got 100 initially, but according to this they are extending production and BMW Aus have just secured another 100.Surely they should have been allocated a few more than that?

They did it with the E46 CSL........
If they think there's sufficient demand I'd be amazed if they didn't.....a super special limited edition in a rarely seen M Colour ? Limited to just another 250 cars or some such b
ks.

Source please.
For now there isn't a "source" but I am certain there will be one....the day it happens I will dig up this thread
Every M car where a convertible option is available has had a convertible incarnation - M3, M6.
The M3 CSL was an exception as it was a one off track day car the 1M isnt....
