Audio/Visual Installations - basics and recommendations...
Discussion
Hello all
I'm thinking about how to wall-mount our main living room TV. It's an older 32" Viera, but we are looking to upgrade this in the future. At the moment the living room is a new-build blank canvas, so I'm not at all fussed about digging holes, running cables and that sort of thing - in fact, my key principle is to do this once, and then sit back and enjoy it. I'm also trying to keep the wall 'clean' by having all of the AV kit away on the adjacent wall.
At the moment I'm thinking about recessing the TV, or perhaps a floating wall or other solution. The slight fly in the ointment is that my wife is insisting on a fireplace (well, Leccy wall-mounted job actually) and logically this would be on the same wall directly beneath the Big Telly.
First Question - what's the view of this? The guy in our local fireplace shop said we'd want one that expelled the heat from the bottom (still rises though I reckon!) and won't inadvertantly heat the TV. I guess this is where my thoughts on recession were from, if the TV is recessed, it won't pick up anywhere near the heat it would mounted 'normally'...
Second Question - Although I'm happy to take on (and fluff up) most DIY projects, I want to do this right. I'm imagining flush mounted TV's, LED lights and generally an MTV Cribs look. With my level of DIY skill that just won't happen... Does anyone have some inprining pics of their own efforts ? Or even installer recommendations in the North West?

Thanks all

Have a good look through this thread

There is a massive range or quality and cost and different looks. Plus most of them include links to build threads with step by step guides that they have done.

Here is one i did for my brother earlier this year, it was a last minute rush job. Inspired by a very old post on AVFORUMS, what you cant see is the LED strip and the new 50" panasonic.
Sorry no diary as like i said it was a last minute thing.

Mine however is still in design stages and will take awhile longer.

Note though that the Ikea stuff is far too shallow if you have decent AV equipment.http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S898945...
