TVR sold, now have a X5 4.6is
Discussion
Hi everyone,
After eight years of ownership, i've finally sold my TVR Chimaera, largely as it wasn't being used. My wife and i had our first child last October, so really wanted something more family orientated but still fun and fast.
I am now the proud owner of an Estoril Blue X5 4.6is. I thought i would miss the TVR, but i am really enjoying the X5. It certainly doesn't drive like a big 4x4. It doesn't feel that heavy, corners flat, and doesn't seem that much slower than my TVR!
And it also has tv's in the headrests, a dvd player and even a playstation 2, which will be great to keep my son entertained!!
Oh, and the V8 sounds awesome.

Good God,you must have a great one,we have a 4.8is & i cant stand the weight of it & it makes my cerb feel like a rocket!
Dont get me wrong they look nice ours is le mans blue & are comfy & a nice high driving position...but it bores me senseless with the sluggish autobox.
I am chuffed for you & your new motor & hope you fall in love with it obviously better than i have!
I always lusted after an x5,but the reality is a disappointment imho.
You have a lovely colour & all road tests love them,so i must just be a poor judge with cars.
Have fun & enjoy it.

True, it's no TVR and certainly doesn't excite me in the same way as the Chimaera did, but i do think it is a good compromise. I do enjoy driving it probably because something so big should not really drive so well. I opted for the 4.6is after reading Evo's review. They seemed to like it (as much as they can a big 4x4 anyway).
I'm still getting used to the auto, though i did discover the Sport mode last night which turned it into a totally different beast. The fuel range on the computer did start dropping like a count down timer though!!!
When in regular mode, the kickdown lag is a bit unnatural to me. In a manual you would be dropping a cog or two yourself in probably a fraction longer than the auto would take. But at least you would be doing something in that time, not just waiting for the car to get into gear.
I'm pretty sure i will own a TVR again at some point in the future, but for now i'm more than happy with my X5

Your right about the evo review they said great things about the 4.6is & they do sound awesome & you get such a lot of car for the money.
I just prefer a manual box & obviously they never did the v8 with one.
I enjoy using the manual mode aswell, but as you say the fuel just drifts away!,i seem to have a love/hate relationship with mine one day i love it & then sometimes i get frustrated with the weight & thirst.
Really pleased your happy with it & i have two labradors & a young daughter so they fit the bill well as a family wagon.
Hope you keep enjoying the sound & v8 power,
Cheers
