Apologies if this has been asked before, but this is something that's intruiged me a little..

How does the 911 numbering scheme work, I know that the outgoing model is the 996 and the incoming is the 997, but as far as I know, prior to the 996 was the 993..

So how does it work?

Cheers,

W

I'm not sure it's that logical - the "9" designations have been used for prototypes, race cars, production models, variations on standard models and even parts. Mind you, it would be interesting to hear what 994 and 995 were used for.

The 995 was a 'Future Car for the '90's (study)'.

The 994 just a dyslexic 944....

My favourite is the Porsche Aufgetragsnummer 101....
