(SEEMINGLY) BRILLIANT INSURANCE CONTACT
Discussion
Hope this is of general interest....
I had some difficulty insuring my chimaera 500 when i bought it in May, due to:
2 fault claims a year ago, totalling £10000
6 current speeding points (9 within 5 years)
eventually managed to get quotes at that time from Mannings - £790 and Aviva (who cover the family car) at £760. Went with Aviva as it's a "premier" policy.
Some of you may have noticed (!) that I've supercharged the chimp, expecting 400bhp+ when we final map it.
Aviva won't offer me trackday insurance, Mannings have withdrawn the offer of cover for supercharged TVRs and I began to get a nasty feeling that come renewal I might face a brick wall....
Did some digging, got hold of R.E.I.S, formerly Richard Egger.
Transparent disclosure of the above history and modifications, allowing for the 6 years protected NCB I'm hanging onto by the skin of my teeth, premium windscreen cover (i imagine chimp glass is expensive now), trackdays included, 6000 miles per year, secure parking but not garaged, social use and I'm 42 btw - quoted £759.46p
That was way better than I was expecting....

Hope this proves useful now there are more and more Tivs being modified.
Some good prices there but I'm still surprised that 2 claims, 6 active points (9 on file), 400+bhp and and £22500 agreed value with trackday cover came in under £800
Really annoying thing is the so-called fault claims were an overturned tin of gloss in the Merc GL (£6000 worth of damage)where Dulux Trade Centre hadnt clipped the tin lid and we got T boned in the resultant hire car, with the insurers agreeing knock for knock (£4000 each), despite all the evidence in my favour incl. police report, all within a month.
This knock for knock lark, I'm told, is the insurers favoured resolution, as what goes round comes around and meanwhile they get to stitch all parties up with a fault record which suits them for the following years premium. All a bit cynical.
