Use of rust converter on outriggers

Hi

my outriggers on my newly bought Griff are pretty rusty I was wondering if it would make sense to high pressure clean them, brush them off with a steel brush and then give them a thick layer of rust converter instead of a body lift ...

If they are badly rusted underneath, they will probably be a lot worse on top where you cant see or get to. Its not uncommon to see them just crumble on top when when the bodies are removed.

Best thing is to give them a good clean and wire brushing to get rid of the loose rust and then have a poke round with a screwdriver and hope it doesnt go through anywhere. If it does its new outrigger time. If they seem ok yes use a rust convertor and then one of the good paints, por 15 or similar.

If they appear badly rusted from what you can see it may well be too late to save them.

new out riggers apprx £1.5k fitted..... go for complete replacement at that cost rather the the chop and infill rusted sections

This. I had mine done this year and although they weren't terrible, I will never have to do them again.
You dont even need to do a body lift now to have them replaced.

At best you'll delay the inevitable by a year or two at most, so not worth the effort. The 500 is ion having them replaced as we speak. Adding seat supports as I can't believe the seats just sit in the fibreglass!!

X Works Lancashire are first class although admittedly not on your doorstep. Depends how far you are willing to travel. Sportmotive maybe a bit nearer and have a good reputation.

What Ant cannot say..`Sportmotive` long term association with Growl etc, all round good guys in Stoke.
