Just had our monthly bill through, it's over 4 times as high as last month, nothing has changed at all in that time apart from we run a fan for about 7 hours at night to drown out any noise.

The fan is 50w, would this be the reason my bill is £70 instead of 15-20 this month or should I report a fault?

No chance.
A kw hour is say 10p ( for ease of calculation, in reality it's maybe 15p+)
If your fan is 50w running for 10 hours a day ( again for ease of calculation) it would cost you 5p per day to run your fan.
Does someone come and read your meter, maybe they made an error when entering your reading.
Phone your supplier to verify what was entered in to their system, give them an up to date reading aswell.
You could also chance your arm and ask themfor an energy meter to see what your using.
Its definately a monthly statement and not a quarterly estimate or something?

Nope, I make the readings, it's deffo monthly, and from what I can see (I have pictures of the meter from each month) the numbers are right.

Dont have an immersion heater, it's an on demand thing.

We have a british gas energy smart thing but it won't fit on the cables due to the way they're laid out.

Going away today for a week but just at a loss as to why it's gone up so much!! Barely even here!!

Slight hijack here but I would be interested to know the lowest Per KWH tariff available. I have tried the uswitch and compare sites and they are only interested in the 'saving' aspect whereas I just want to know the cheapest tariff for 18000+ kwH a year, as I assume some will tier the cost per KWH.

OP, do you keep meter readings as you submit them or are you Smart meter?

Can't help on a tariff as you would need a 12,000 mile extension cable - but 18,000kW hrs a year is going for it. All electric house with large family?

Since you have the previous monthly readings - has your consumption gone up this month, or have you used roughly the same number of units but the unit cost has gone up?
