I like the Breitling for Bentley watches, the IWC AMG and the Panerai Ferrari watches were even ok. I am not doubting that a watchmaker with history and prestige can manufacture a line for a car company.

But a car company marketing its own watches which have been made by Eterna? (I do not know if they make the whole line, so correct me if I'm wrong)

All I can say is that although I like the design of the world timer, I could not belive the RRP price .... circa 9,000 EURO

The modern stuff is a poor relation to the older models IMHO

Originally Porsche Design had nothing to do with the car company. As the name suggests it was a design / fashion 'brand' started by another family member, but allowed to use the family name as at the time the two industries were so apart that legally one could not be mistaken for the other
For example: lotus cars, lotus shoes, lotus software are also nothing to do with each other.
People just assumed both Porsche brands were one in the same, and now they are tied in together.

The original Porsche Design by IWC were and still are the best IMHO. If you can find a titanium ocean 2000, they're still worth a good few quid, in fact it's a 0 depreciation Porsche

Well it was actually started by Butzi Porsche, who as a direct family member and designer of the 911 would give it a touch more credence than you're offering. Undoubtedly wed somewhat in recent times, but probably has more about it than Ferrari tat.

I actually quite like the current ones but feel they're in the hinterland between low end stuff and more traditional pieces and as such very price dependent. The old stuff? TBH I'd just go for an IWC, but that's just me.

I agree that the "old stuff" is better than their current models. But I would say this because here's my PO11 !

Old is gold, but I do like the modern watches, just wanted to find some way of justifying their prices. If it was 1/3rd the price they would be considerations, but at these prices I can't see the values holding up too great. Maybe they will become future great bargains smile

Is there a decent guide to Porsche watches out there? I haven't googled as yet, but it would be handy as like other posters, I love some of the older designs.

I did see one I liked at the Leipzig factory/experience centre a couple of years back, it came boxed with a model of the yellow RS Spyder race car, didn't get it and I kind of wish I had as IIRC it was on offer and not too expensive.

would much rather the old designs with IWC branding not Porsche design, which just reminds me of kettles and other such tat

at least the old ones look nice (because they look like an IWC), the new ones per OP are not nice at all IMHO

The Orfina Porsche Design was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, is a great watch (perhaps the most well known and regarded) with a great movement - as Andy T has shown above; after that the IWC built ones are a still quite interesting, but after that there's not been any that have lit my fire tbh.
