Hi,

We're looking to buy a Honda Civic 1.6 Sport as the daily driver. Cheap to run and insure for my girlfriend. But I'd like to make sure I can get my kayak and bikes on the roof without damaging the car or putting undue stress on the little roof.

So, has anyone have a roof rack on their Civic or other little hatchback? Any photos for me? How does it fit? I see you can buy a short roof adaptor kit, it looks quite extravagant and complicated! I can't find any close up photos of the kit, just this...

How does it work and all go together exactly?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Dan

I have used the kit on my prelude, it works very well. Fits as it shows in the pic you posted.

I have this kit for carrying bikes on my 3dr Focus. At first I was a bit unsure about it at first myself. Once its bolted on and the screws tightened up its pretty solid though.

Apologies for the bluesness of the photos, not sure what was going on with my camera.

scratchchin - I was thinking about getting roof bars for my Picanto, never saw such a kit being offered though, just a set of bars, is it only certain small cars that'll need it?

Thanks ever so much. Just what I was after. So, so the very rear feet just sit resting on the car then? They don't physically clamp around anything. Looks good. Hoping to buy the Civic today. smile

Your welcome, yes the rear feet just rest on the roof. The short roof adaptor thing clips in underneath the rear bar. So when you tighten up the screws on the roof adaptor and the front feet it clamps the whole rack down and puts downward pressure on the rear feet.

I bought the bits for my rack cheap on ebay. I think though if you are unsure about fitting it, you can buy it from Halfords. They should be able to show you how it goes together.

Well, fitted them and they seem pretty secure. Much better than I'd thought. Took quite a bit of messing around to get them to fit right, but now they're adjusted correctly I think they'll be easier to fit next time. I'm a little nervous about putting such a long kayak on the roof but that's the next job!
