E46 M3 Alternator Replacement

My back and arms are killing me, but I did manage to swap out the alternator today, after the battery light started coming on above 4000rpm. I got it reasonably cheaply, but was wondering if anyone online buys alternators with a view to refurbishment.
Anyone know of such a site or should I lob it in the bin?
Also after putting it all back together hastily before the rain started, I realised I hadn't put the little plastic cover back on the belt tensioner bolt. I can reach it with the air box and cowling back on but can't get it to stick. Can anyone suggest how I pop it back on without having to rip everything out again?
