Evening all,

Am currently around a week and a half into ownership of my 'new' 03-plate, Bora TDi 130.

Hugely happy with it: comfortable as anything, except perhaps our old Volvo, pulls like a train when it needs to, and still averages 60mpg, despite some city stop-start stuff. Covered around 550 miles in combined little trips recently and barely used half a tank.

Chuffed.

Except a couple of things I could do with PH's collective wisdom on:

1. Car only came with 1 key: the switchblade main key, but it's tatty, and the loop for putting it on a keyfob has snapped, hence a loose car key in the pocket - bit risky as it's the only one. I'd rather avoid going through a VW dealer to sort out a replacement, and eBay is rife with keys that look right, but something shouts dodgy to me about them. Ideas for easiest/cheapest solution?

2. External temp sensor is duff, I think - no display on dash, just -.--°C
I'm told the sensor is just below the bumper on the offside, behind a grill, although that's a little vague. Any ideas would be great.

Other than that I can wholeheartedly recommend the car; being a Bora there's tons of bootspace, and they're cheaper to buy and insure than the Golf they share most of their being with.

Cheers

Timpson - £30 for a immobiliser coded key. Or two for £50 (this was about two weeks ago in the Hinckley branch)

2. NSF lower grille. Pops out from the top. Sensors behind there. Might find it's not been plugged in when someone has had the bumper off.

Check your fauly fuel gauge, cos there's no way you are getting 550 miles from half a tank....sorry. Touch over 600 on a good day, brim full to light on

The key fob can be levered apart into two halves. Just buy one of the fob skins off ebay and swap over the bit of the cover with the key ring on it and leave the immobiliser and remote locking parts alone. Easy to do and cheap.
