Looks like I'll be moving to a new home in about 6 weeks and I have a room that I can kit out as a home gym.

Was thinking of getting a Concept 2 or similar rower for CV but wondered what I should get regarding free weights, benches or any weight "machines" (i.e. peck deck type equipment). Advice on makes too would be helpful.

I'm not a body builder so this is for fitness/strength/definition for me and the other half so don't need to go too heavy. For a guide I occasionally bench 80KG for low rep sessions but mostly it's 50/60K and for stuff like bicep curls I'll do around 10KG per arm max. The other half will lift much lighter weights.

Also..what flooring should I put in the room - carpet or get some special rubber flooring (and if so, what)? It will be on a concrete base.

Thanks.

Keep it simple with kettlebells and some dumbbells, you really don't need a lot to have an effective home gym. I've got 3 kettlebells, one dumbbell and two resistance bands at home (and I'm only allowed those if I promise to keep them stored neatly under a chair!) and I rarely want for more.

A dumbbell bench and some dumbbells would suit your needs.

Is it to replace gym membership? If so then think of what you and your OH would miss most from the gym.

Thanks guys - good advice.

Only started using kettles recently so was not top of mind so thanks for that.

Yes we're moving away from our favourite little private gym so thinking what I'll miss is a great approach.

If you can afford them for convenience then the bowflex dumbbells might be worth a look, saves the OH messing around with spinlocks smile

I have a set of these - a godsend, well worth it for the convenience and space they save. Just don't treat them roughly if you do get a set - don't like being dropped!

Will you have room for something like a TRX Suspension Trainer, or a wall mounted Lifeline cable set up? That would open the door to many things...

Not moving till 30th Nov but I MAY join a David Lloyd gym which I just found local to me. It has tennis too which may be the clincher. We shall see.

Don't believe there is one in Bournemouth; this is Ringwood (which you might possibly mean0.

"Mirror Man" - it's either someone you know or one of those "poseurs" that frequent the changing rooms whilst letting it all hang out. I'll shower at home me'thinks wink
