I have an E70 3.0d X5 with a DMS remap. What else can you do to these cars to further improve performance. Would like to give it a bit more vocally so exhaust recommendations particularly welcome.

Not wanting to make it a weapon as it is what it is, a big 4x4 and I'm lucky enough to have have my toys to enjoy the thrill of motoring but would just like to explore basic zort, brakes n handling upgrades if they exist. Is there a paddle shift mod for these? Miltek used to offer one for the E54 IIRC.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You could go for a full exhaust system in stainless steel and remove the CATS, which would liberate perhaps 7-10 bhp (estimate) and allow the engine to breathe better. Miltek make exhausts only as far as I'm aware they don't make paddle shifts, but other good places to get an exhaust made up would be Hayward & Scott and Profusion Customs who are the UK's Magnaflow importer. You can then discuss with them what kind of sound you do want and they'll make it for you. Yes, a diesel with an exhuast doesn't sound like an equivalent petrol, but you can have a nice burble and roar if you'd like (my E39 530d Touring has just a powerflow back box and it sounds great!)

Uprated brakes can be done, perhaps slightly lowered suspension with springs to give it more body roll control etc. The re-map is the biggest change which you already have so you might need a tweak if you do change the exhaust - speak to DMS about that. If you have more cash to spend, then you could go the route of a bigger turbo and injectors etc for a significant bump up in the power output too! all depends on how much you'd like to spend Vs power outputs and gains acheived.

Cheers, Dennis!
