I;m guessing the light still comes on?

If so then its probably the compressor.

Have you tried whacking it and shouting 'bks'?

That's a good start, and even if it doesn't work you feel better smile

Electronic or Analogue??

If you have any electrical skills you can bypass the control interface and check if the motor is still working.

If the motor is dead, it's more cost effective to replace the FF.

If the motor still works, then it's either the control board or thermostat.

What these cost and how easy they are to replace depends on the make and model of machine.

Do you wind it by hand, or plug it into the mains.

OP if you are anywhere near south london im getting a new fridge this week and the old (perfectly working) fridge is up for grabs. If you can pick it up it's yours. It's nothing fancy but works fine.

It's a fridge freezer combo by the way.

Have you checked it doesn't need defrosting? Some of the auto-defrost fridges and fridge freezers stop defrosting when the little rainhole gets blocked, and it eventually stops them working full stop. A full defrost will get them working again.

Pick a really nice quiet time of day. You need to be able to hear the proverbial pin drop.

Turn the thermostat right down as low as it can go (so if five makes it go as cold as it can, turn it to zero).

Slowly turn the thermostat up. Listen for the miniscule click. If it's the thermostat that's faulty there will be no click. If it clicks, then you should start to think about probable compressor faults.

Thermostat is relatively straightforward to replace, but will involve a length of string or wire attached to the old one when you remove it to pull the new one through.
