Price matching be aware.

[chrisxr2]

I have recently received this pricematch from a well known online watch retailer in an attempt to price match a well known high street jeweller who has a sale on, just a note to be aware when businesses offer a price match they can just make the rules up as they go along. Still 30 pund difference in the prices.

Thank you for submitting your Price Match request.
We have reviewed your request and as an authorised dealer for that brand we don't quite see the other website as fully comparable to us, however we are delighted to still be able to offer you a discount on this watch, which means you can get the watch at a lower price and still have the reassurance of buying the watch through The online retailer
Unfortunately we can only price match to competitor standard pricing, and excludes special pricing. This is a very special price and on this occasion we are unable to make a full price match offer. We have made you an improved online retailer price as a gesture of good will.
To order the watch all you need to do now is click on the link on the right of this email, add the watch to your basket and in the first step of the checkout process, enter the following code as a promotion code. This code can only be used once and is valid until 10:36, 7 Sep 11
C55CA1A6CB
This code will allow you to buy this watch at the discounted price of £ 180.00, but don't forget to click the 'Apply' button next to where you type the code in, as this validates the code and applies the discount.
Thank you for using The Well known watch site.

Watchhut? I wouldn't buy it from there anyway.

When buying my Tag Monaco last year every high street retailer offered 15% discount, and beaverbrooks topped them all with 20%. Always worth asking for

This is going back a few years to my call centre days but as a rule of thumb aren't most price match policies based on the pre-sales prices of a competitor? Granted if we wanted the sale we'd come to an agreement but what they've wrote seems fair enough.

Miguel that isnt price matching though, buy a tv or another consumer good and stores match sale price without a problem. Panasonic matched richer sounds with my current tv for instance.

I'm sure they do but I reckon that will be more down to them wanting the sale as opposed to what head office policy says. Think of it this way, there could be any reason why an item is in the sale, last season stock, display stock, damaged goods etc. An item may not be 100% like for like. I'm kind of playing devil's advocate here but I'm sure you get the picture.

But in your case I'd be asking them to beat the offer regardless or go where it is cheaper.
