Foreign plated english cars

Just reading in the Times about ANPR cameras and a interesting bit about a loophole.It seems that some brits are buying continental cars and using them over here knowing that any camera,gatsos,average or any other can't be traced,by law they should be registered on british within six months.I know when I had a car bought in from Switzerland a few years back on Swiss export plates I could insure on normal insurance via its vin plate tempory but how does this stack up on the long term

Every other car in London is foreign registered these days.

I expect it's quite amusing watching PC Plod write "غالية" on a ticket.

a friend of mine had a merc on jersey plates drove it around for about twos years
he did get pulled over as the copper had seen him around for a long alot,
so i surpose it depends on the local police in your area knowing what to do if they suspect you

RHD cars most often on Polish plates if not British plates (can be Latvian), modified to 'Euro' specifications, driven by IC4 males.

See it a lot.

Judging by the number of Polish cars that are local to me and the fact they have been here for over a few years in some cases, it would seem that the importation is overlooked, however I think its a DVLA tax issue/requirement, rather than VAT etc on European registered vehicles and the time limit before they should be registered. Would imagine the Spanish have the same problem, judging by the number of vehicles still on UK plates on the costas, however they seem to have a purge every now and then, however as regards speeding in Spain, they seem to have put a system in place to alert local traffic cars if a foreign car is caught by camera, link
